  • Obadiah McMullin - a worker

Worker shaped by the ideals of progress and hard work. He believed education and technology could protect people from poverty and chaos. Now a stoker in New London, he endures brutal labor and constant hunger while clinging to the hope that his unfinished education will one day make him more than just fuel for the Generator. He believes order, discipline, and knowledge are the only paths to survival in a world that no longer forgives weakness.

  • Fred Brumley - a scout

You grew up in a crowded, poor district of London, surrounded by siblings and held together more by family than by money. As a chimney sweep, you risked your life daily in narrow flues to earn a living. You reached New London with your sister Jane as your last close family, carrying the weight of hard choices made to protect her. Now, as a scout, you regularly venture into the frozen wastelands, driven by the need to keep her safe and give the city a chance to endure.

  • Jane O'Leary - a worker

As a child in a match factory, you discovered a talent for trade and sales, quickly understanding how value, scarcity, and human need truly work. Now you trade in whatever can be acquired, walking a careful line between Faith and Order, trusting neither fully. Your goals are simple and uncompromising: protect your brother, find the rest of your family, and survive without losing what little humanity the frost has not yet taken from you.

  • Albert Fairncombe - a worker

You never believed the world was fair, but you believed it could be better. In the frozen ruins of New London, you spread Faith not from above, but from the ground level, believing that humanity will not survive by discipline or strength alone, but by compassion, shared purpose, and the stubborn refusal to abandon one another.
